Collect customer data (leads) with Facebook Lead Ads
Facebook has released, what could potentially be, one of the best ways to obtain new customer data in the form of leads. This means that if you:
- Are a realtor and want leads for your property listings
- Provide a valuable service
- Promote events
- Sell items
- Or, generally want to build a customer list for your sales team or marketing team
then this is very good news for you.
Traditionally, if you wanted to collect leads with Facebook ads, you would need to send people to your website after clicking on your ad, have the user submit information through a form, and then track the conversion and maintain the leads on your own. This is no longer the case.
Facebook is making it a point to be keep users within their Facebook app, meaning Facebook wants to help you and your business collect leads directly within Facebook. You can now collect user information from those who click on your ads all within Facebook, which means potentially more leads and cheaper cost per lead without having to lower the quality of the leads.
What you need to launch a lead generation ad campaign:
- A Facebook page
- A Facebook ad account
- To create a "lead form" (see below)
- List of information you would like to obtain from the user (e.g., name, email, phone number, etc...)
- Images and text to use in your ads
Create your Lead Form
You can create a Lead Form in 2 locations. You can create the form directly as you create your ad campaign, or you can create it ahead of time via your page's publishing tools. The process is the same.
From your Facebook page, click on "Publishing Tools"
Then, click on "Lead Forms" in the left hand column and then "Create" in the right hand corner.
These are the bare-minimum of steps that you need to make your first Lead Form. Once it is created, you will be able to select the form when you create your Facebook Lead campaign.

To create you ad directly on Facebook, go through the usual ad creation steps and choose "Collect leads for your business" for your campaign objective. The targeting settings, placement, bidding, and optimization setting's flow remains the same, but during the ad creation process you will be able to choose the required Lead Form from a drop down list or go through the same Lead Form creation process described above to create a Lead Form from scratch.
When you have everything set up, your lead form created and selected, just launch and start tracking your results! It really is that simple. Once you start generating leads, you can download your leads in CSV format from the same window that you create your Lead Form's on the "Publishing Tools" tab.
